Products & Services > Coating & PlatingRotating blades and stationary vanes in the hot section of land-based gas turbines are of complex design and material structure, being typically cast using either nickel or cobalt based superalloys. Coatings are applied to protect these components from the damaging environments they operate in, (i.e. corrosive, oxidising, etc.). However since the coating will typically have a lifetime of up to 25 - 30% of the mechanical lifetime of the base material, there is considerable economic benefit to the gas turbine operator if components are refurbished, rather than buying new expensive replacement parts. The function of all coatings is to provide a surface reservoir of elements that will form very protective and adherent oxide layers, thus protecting the underlying base material from oxidation, corrosion attack and degradation. It is PAS Technologies goal to work with the operator to understand the range of coating types available and the operating conditions associated with the turbine to specify the most cost effective coating solution available. Among the coating types available as PAS technologies are: Coatings: Metals, Alloys, Carbides, Ceramics & Cermets
